Few things bring back childhood memories like the county fair. The intriguing aromas (though I’m not counting manure as one of them), the dizzying rides, the unusual entertainers, and foods that taste better precisely because you know that eating them is probably bad for you. And now, for eleven days from April 19 through April 29, Tucsonans of all ages can reconnect with their childhood at the Pima County Fair.

The entertainment at this year’s fair is bound to be amazing. You’ll find daily shows featuring trained monkeys, Bengal tigers and adorable Frisbee-fetching dogs. You won’t want to miss the pig races or the petting zoo either. For those who desire entertainment that’s a little more “edgy,” there will be a hypnotist, fire dancing and a traditional stunt show.

The musical acts won’t be beat by any other fair in the country. Guests include Ted Nugent, Boys II Men and Baby Bash as well as Cody Simpson, Middle Class Run, Justin Moore, Ramon Ayala, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds.

Get ready to stuff your face with The Big Rib or Monster Grill. The Big Rib is a 2-pound beef rib on a 17-inch bone. The Monster Grill is the biggest corn dog around, served with a 5-pound curly fry boat. Sonoran Hot Dogs and Street Tacos will be available for $2 all day, every day. Finish up with The Colossal Gelato, billed as the world’s biggest waffle cone. Wash it all down with an adult beverage at the Sunset Cantina.

Then it’s time to hit the carnival rides, though I’d suggest avoiding the spinning variety until you’ve digested your Big Rib. Pick up discounted weekday ride coupons in advance at area Frys (through April 18) or purchase your carnival tickets online to save time at the fair. Special unlimited ride bands will be available for purchase as well.

Hope to see you at the Pima County Fair!
